What book had an alien girl with fire in her veins and a snake floating in her hair?

I'm looking for a book I read in the early 80s about a girl who had gold veins of fire showing on her skin. She and her male companion were the last of their race. They traveled in a spaceship and she had a snake of some sort that could float in her hair. I think the male had fur all over his body but I don't remember for sure. Please help.
