Friend mad over virtual man?

my friend had been talking to a guy online, started chatting around end of august, became infatuated with him. I was also chatting with people online and suddenly after looking at one guys pics and they pics she had on myspace, i realized i was chatting with her obsession. We didnt talk much at all, a handfull of convos. I stopped talking to him, didnt tell her. Figured why bother? it'd make things weird. She continued to talk abut him all the time, i logged into IM one day, he messaged me, he seems like a player so i told him, hey you're talking to a friend of mine. Well he TELLS her that he's chatting with me. Long and short, she was hurt that i didnt tell her. I can see her side on wishing i'd said something, i just thought it was weird so i didnt! it is ONLINE crap. She was sending me texts last nite asking about it, i got upset and just called her. i apologized, but i also basically said that this is crazy. Guy is a player, she is also 30 years old.
